The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 69 spots for Graham Mertz, and value like that does not grow back. No fireworks, but a solid B.
That Stutsman pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at No. 44 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Jayden Higgins at pick No. 76 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach the 148th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Lathan Ransom all the way to pick 168, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Addison West in the Round 5 slot, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A real head-scratcher, Davison Igbinosun in the 173rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Eli Stowers for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Donovan Edwards at slot 209, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Graham Mertz well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
