Kansas City Chiefs

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chiefs and Dixon: B.

Call it larceny. Johnny Dixon sat on the board until No. 232, and the Chiefs did not need to be asked twice. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

They will need Gore Jr. to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trade work was a quiet net positive.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Graham Barton · OT · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R4.7 · Pick 107 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 102
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cam Hart in pick 107. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 98
Nice patience on Brenden Rice, who had no business lasting to No. 108. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 124
Theo Johnson in the 129th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.32 · Pick 132 · McKinnley Jackson · DL · rank 123
McKinnley Jackson slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey in slot 169 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 165
Marist Liufau in the 173rd pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
They reached into another round for Joe Milton III, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
R6.22 · Pick 197 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 225
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 197 says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 190
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in Round 7, Pick 12, plain and simple. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 244
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in slot 245. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
