Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Tahj Washington, the No. 189 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 233.
If Davis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in pick 56, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Ray Davis at pick No. 87, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had Dwight McGlothern higher than Round 5, Pick 38, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and slot 216 is lovely value for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tahj Washington in No. 233 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a linebacker like JD Bertrand reach the 244th overall pick and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
