The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
They banked enough surplus on Pearsall to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Reaching for Robinson left real value on the table behind him.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 4 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Troy Fautanu at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in the 37th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Chris Braswell at No. 68 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in the 100th overall pick, where TreVeyon Henderson graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Luke Lachey in pick No. 104 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No edge and no loss on Sataoa Laumea in pick 141; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They liked Darius Robinson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 6, Pick 7. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ricky Pearsall at pick 225 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
