After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Jones reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Smith pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton in No. 34 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ricky Pearsall at slot 68 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Tykee Smith was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 4. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Darius Robinson at pick No. 111 when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid a round early for Dylan Laube in pick 136, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Christian Jones in the 182nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Brevyn Spann-Ford a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
