The Patriots torched the value chart for Thor Griffith, taking him 58 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Moore at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Mike Green in the 30th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Omarion Hampton at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Colston Loveland in pick 45 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Xavier Watts higher than the 54th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Maxwell Hairston at No. 62 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid up for Ozzy Trapilo at slot 69 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A premium they did not need to pay, Charles Grant a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Jaylin Noel come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Andrew Mukuba in slot 120 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to the 121st pick, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reach on Aeneas Peebles in the 123rd overall pick; the board had better options right there. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Will Howard at pick 145 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Malachi Moore still on the board at Round 5, Pick 19. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Addison West at pick No. 165 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Alijah Huzzie at pick No. 217 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
A conviction pick on Zeek Biggers at pick 219 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Clay Webb at slot 222 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tonka Hemingway at No. 234 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
