The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Bhayshul Tuten, the No. 153 name on the board, sitting there at Round 7, Pick 1 like a gift left on the doorstep. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Reaching for Hamilton left real value on the table behind him. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Shemar Stewart in the 24th overall pick, a genuine coup. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in No. 38, where Malaki Starks graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Xavier Restrepo, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Elijah Arroyo at par in slot 77, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They let Malachi Moore come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They will replay Ajani Cornelius at pick 145 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 219 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
