The rest of the league had time to spare on Parker Brailsford; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 60 spots ahead at pick No. 67. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The back end got a real overhaul.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 1st pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Jonah Savaiinaea at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Parker Brailsford in No. 67 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Quinshon Judkins at the 93rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach for Tyler Warren in slot 103; a little patience would have been rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They liked Ben Yurosek enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 139. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kyren Lacy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Jay Toia, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Barryn Sorrell at the 235th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
