They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Wallace to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will need Holker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton at the 34th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Malachi Corley at the Round 3 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Renardo Green at the 103rd pick is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for Dallin Holker at slot 137 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kamal Hadden at Round 6, Pick 5 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Myles Cole at pick 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Caedan Wallace at No. 231 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
