They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Every board in the league had Okie-Anoma lower, and that gap is the story. Getting Foster where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Chris Braswell at the 35th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in slot 40, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in pick No. 49. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Patrick Paul in No. 67 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the 80th pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Zak Zinter at pick 103 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at slot 117, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Javon Foster in the 138th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at the 181st overall pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in No. 220 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Rasheen Ali slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
