Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The cost of the Jackson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 3 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 34 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Malachi Corley at No. 68 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Max Melton in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ben Sinnott at pick 136 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value said wait; Jha'Quan Jackson in the 182nd pick says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Trey Taylor at slot 229, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
