The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Giants spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith. They will need Puni to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
Keon Coleman at slot 47 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dominick Puni in the Round 3 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Maason Smith at pick 107 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Josh Newton in Round 5, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a safety like Tykee Smith reach pick No. 183 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
