Call it larceny. Jay Higgins sat on the board until the 86th pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They are betting Fleming proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled James Pearce Jr. all the way to the 41st pick, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Domani Jackson at pick No. 72. A minor itch, scratched.
Circle this one: Jay Higgins at the Round 3 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy bit of business in No. 108, where Keon Sabb graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nazir Stackhouse. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Julian Fleming at Round 6, Pick 20, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Bryson Nesbit come to them and pounced at the 218th overall pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
