The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Henderson.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 1 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Jayden Daniels in the 5th overall pick, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Kris Jenkins, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 23. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Edgerrin Cooper in slot 59 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They bypassed pressing needs at interior defensive lineman to take Junior Colson, a linebacker that was not the priority.
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Jaden Hicks in pick 117, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kitan Oladapo slid further than he should have, and the 172nd pick is lovely value for the safety. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Layden Robinson at the Round 6 slot is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Chau Smith-Wade at the 185th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Austin Stogner at No. 189 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled LaDarius Henderson all the way to Round 6, Pick 18, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and JD Bertrand was the payoff at slot 197. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
They robbed the room for Blake Watson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
