Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
Landing Carter that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
They are betting Skattebo proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 2 slot. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cameron Williams. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Isaiah Bond in pick 77, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Mason Taylor at pick No. 87 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Skattebo a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 95 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Restrepo at pick 101, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Barrett Carter in Round 4, Pick 4, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Trevor Etienne in the 144th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Clay Webb in pick No. 195 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jason Marshall Jr. in No. 198 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Joshua Gray at the 208th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Craig Woodson went about where he belonged in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Luke Elzinga in pick 220. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They paid sticker price for Jabbar Muhammad in slot 232, and that is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
By-the-book stuff, Jamon Dumas-Johnson at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
