When a board-topper like Chris Paul Jr. slides to the 220th pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Dellinger has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
Bottom line, with Tetairoa McMillan leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nice patience on Jalon Walker, who had no business lasting to No. 37. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Tyler Baron at the 69th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Omarr Norman-Lott at Round 3, Pick 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Jordan James was still sitting there in slot 104, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A running back of that caliber at pick 143 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Seth McLaughlin in the Round 6 slot, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Dellinger this early at pick No. 217. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chris Paul Jr. at slot 220 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Kaden Prather at the 238th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
