The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The Jones pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
A real head-scratcher, Patrick Paul in the 43rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Javon Baker at Round 3, Pick 4 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Austin Booker in No. 79, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on DeWayne Carter in the 104th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dillon Johnson. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jarrian Jones at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jared Wiley in slot 229 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
