Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They are betting Henderson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. in the 34th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Adisa Isaac in Round 3, Pick 4 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Roman Wilson in pick 103 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
LaDarius Henderson at slot 139 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Jaylin Simpson at the 182nd overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Steele Chambers at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Matthew Jones in No. 232 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
