Nobody had Taulia Tagovailoa this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 39 spots to get him at the 185th overall pick. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With edge rusher, cornerback and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on defensive back is the choice that costs them. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 7th overall pick on Kool-Aid McKinstry with edge rusher, cornerback and other spots unsolved.
By-the-book stuff, Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Patrick Paul went about where he belonged in No. 48. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Zak Zinter in slot 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 82 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They did well to land James Williams in Round 4, Pick 7, just ahead of his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A straight-up fair deal on Devontez Walker at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taulia Tagovailoa at No. 185 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
