The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Tre Harris slide 169 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in slot 64, and they pounced on premier safety value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Wyatt Milum at pick No. 69 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Tate Ratledge reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ashton Jeanty at pick 128 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board fumbled Dylan Fairchild all the way to the 166th overall pick, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Jordan Hancock at the 193rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
Tre Harris at Round 7, Pick 27 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Julian Fleming in No. 224, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
