Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. Brian Thomas Jr., the No. 27 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 62.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Adding Mark Andrews by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cooper DeJean at Round 2, Pick 5 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Brian Thomas Jr. in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and Ricky Pearsall was the payoff at slot 69. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dominick Puni in No. 93 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Trey Benson at the 105th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zak Zinter at pick 110 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
Jarrian Jones in pick No. 140 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Khristian Boyd at slot 181 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Steele Chambers in No. 225 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edefuan Ulofoshio in the 253rd overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
