The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Daniels, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
Cohen at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
In the 9th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They did well to land Brian Thomas Jr. in slot 34, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Tyler Guyton come to them and pounced at No. 43. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had T.J. Tampa higher than the Round 3 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nice patience on Christian Mahogany, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 8. The roster fit checks out.
Elijah Jones at the 137th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 180 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Walter Rouse in the 182nd pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Kitan Oladapo still on the board at slot 193. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Javion Cohen all the way to the 221st overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kendall Milton at pick No. 231 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Myles Harden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
