The Cowboys torched the value chart for R.J. Oben, taking him 117 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
However the rest shakes out, Paul Jr. at that price is a win they earned. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Tetairoa McMillan and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 23 they get a true top target, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at pick 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 3 slot is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Gunnar Helm in No. 122 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DeMonte Capehart in Round 5, Pick 11 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
A wild overpay on Jonas Sanker in pick No. 168, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A minor itch, scratched.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on J.C. Davis at slot 186, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Garrett Dellinger this early at the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R.J. Oben at the 235th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Value said wait; Justin Walley in Round 7, Pick 32 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
