Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Commanders, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Cowing where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 21 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 32 they get a problem off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Tavion Sanders went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
JT Tuimoloau in No. 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Josh Newton at Round 2, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kingsley Suamataia is a better player than slot 68 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Jalen McMillan in the 128th pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jaylan Ford at pick No. 182 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jacob Cowing in the 226th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
