New York Jets

The Jets did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B.

The tape said wait; the Jets did not. Dasan McCullough went at the 242nd overall pick, a good 80 picks before the board was ready. No fireworks, but a solid B.

However the rest shakes out, Bisontis at that price is a win they earned. The Jets indulged a want in Styles while a need in interior defensive lineman stayed open. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Arvell Reese · LB · rank 7
Arvell Reese at the 12th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R1.16 · Pick 16 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 11
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Sonny Styles while clear needs at interior defensive lineman sat open.
R1.28 · Pick 28 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 16
In No. 28 they get a potential shutdown corner, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.1 · Pick 33 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
A straight-up fair deal on Emmanuel Pregnon at pick 33, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Omar Cooper Jr. · WR · rank 35
Omar Cooper Jr. at Round 2, Pick 12 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Jacob Rodriguez · LB · rank 52
A want over a need in the Round 2 slot: Jacob Rodriguez adds a linebacker while interior defensive lineman keeps waiting.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Chase Bisontis · OG · rank 53
They will replay Chase Bisontis at the 92nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.3 · Pick 103 · Mike Washington Jr. · RB · rank 72
They robbed the room for Mike Washington Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.40 · Pick 140 · Oscar Delp · TE · rank 133
Nothing to complain about; Oscar Delp went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R5.1 · Pick 141 · Bud Clark · S · rank 105
Circle this one: Bud Clark at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.39 · Pick 179 · Taylen Green · QB · rank 191
They paid a round early for Taylen Green in pick 179, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.12 · Pick 228 · Hykeem Williams · WR · rank 290
They left a pile of value on the table to take Hykeem Williams this early at slot 228. It fills a real need, too.
R7.26 · Pick 242 · Dasan McCullough · LB-EDGE · rank 322
Dasan McCullough at No. 242 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.27 · Pick 243 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 239
A reasonable price with a little left over, Robert Spears-Jennings in the 243rd pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
