When the story of this class is written, it opens with Sam Hartman at Round 6, Pick 44, a reach of 39 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
Leveston falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Payton Wilson at slot 41 when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Adisa Isaac in the 58th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trey Benson at pick No. 88 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Calen Bullock slipping to Round 3, Pick 28 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Mason McCormick at the 126th pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanor Bortolini at the 169th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Ryan Flournoy in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Sam Hartman at pick No. 219 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Michael Barrett in pick 245, a genuine coup. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing KT Leveston in Round 7, Pick 35. The roster fit checks out.
