The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Sainristil falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 23 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They took Jordan Morgan at par in Round 2, Pick 2, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in the 68th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Mike Sainristil in slot 103 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
Nice patience on James Williams, who had no business lasting to the 137th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Javion Cohen at No. 180 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jase McClellan in pick 193 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Magee is a better player than pick 231 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
