The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chargers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. It grades a D+, and the process earned it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They are betting Sweat proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The Brownlee Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Cooper Beebe went about where he belonged in pick No. 69. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Blake Corum in the 78th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nice patience on Caelen Carson, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Beaux Limmer in pick 118, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Jarvis Brownlee Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ty'Ron Hopper in slot 183. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
By-the-book stuff, Tip Reiman at No. 223 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Good price on Josh Wallace in Round 7, Pick 36, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
