Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Chiefs spent the 26th overall pick on Jonathon Brooks, a name the board had a full 34 spots lower. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brock Bowers in slot 7 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In the 26th overall pick they get a featured back, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
In pick 27 they get juice off the edge, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 32 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Mike Sainristil slid further than he should have, and the 89th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
