Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, with Drake Maye leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 5 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Amarius Mims slid further than he should have, and the 34th pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A need, and now a little less of one.
Xavier Legette at the 68th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Lynn Polk. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Audric Estime in Round 4, Pick 4, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took Christian Jones at par in pick 136, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Sione Vaki for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Elijah Jones in slot 229, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
