Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Patriots will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
However the rest shakes out, McGlothern at that price is a win they earned. Johnson has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Marvin Harrison Jr. in the 3rd overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
J.J. McCarthy at pick No. 34 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached into another round for Theo Johnson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 137th pick, where Josh Newton graded well above the range. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
They took Trente Jones at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 231st pick is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
