The Patriots bet big and early on Jawhar Jordan, 99 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 17 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keon Coleman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Kingsley Suamataia in slot 49; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cade Stover in pick No. 68 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Hart at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had cheaper options than Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 15, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Brandon Coleman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jawhar Jordan at the 180th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Jalen Coker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dylan McMahon well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
