Somebody took the Giants to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots. Every board in the league had Worthy lower, and that gap is the story.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 1 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in pick No. 39, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They went early on Xavier Worthy in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, edge rusher and other spots still to address, they spent slot 106 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
No drama and no debate, Renardo Green went about where he belonged in the 109th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sataoa Laumea at Round 4, Pick 21 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Roger Rosengarten at the 140th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
