Somebody in No. 219 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Nicholas Singleton, the No. 101 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They are betting Weaver proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 16 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Tate Ratledge in the 36th pick, just ahead of his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Restrepo at pick 66 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kamari Ramsey in the 67th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 120 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 1 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Nicholas Singleton all the way to slot 219, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Shilo Sanders at par in Round 7, Pick 19, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Will Lee III come to them and pounced at the 238th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
