The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cowboys watched Luther Burden III slide 21 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Aeneas Peebles in pick 68 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Trevor Etienne at slot 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick No. 126 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Malik Spencer, who had no business lasting to No. 141. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Marques Cox in Round 5, Pick 30 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steve Linton is a better player than the 190th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
They took Keaten Wade at par in the 205th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
The board had Will Sheppard higher than the 222nd pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
