Call it larceny. Karene Reid sat on the board until No. 239, and the Commanders did not need to be asked twice.
They will need Stewart to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Domani Jackson in the 58th overall pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Shemar Stewart at the 87th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Omarion Hampton in No. 91 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Taking Jake Majors in slot 147 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kobe Hudson in pick No. 198 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Brant Kuithe at pick 235 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Karene Reid all the way to Round 7, Pick 25, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 245 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
