They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Jayden Daniels is the Commanders' quarterback, full stop.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. It is not that Solomon is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Solomon pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
However the rest shakes out, Jackson at that price is a win they earned.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jayden Daniels at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 4, where Tyler Guyton graded well above the range. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Good price on Keon Coleman in the 40th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javon Bullard in pick No. 67 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in the 99th pick, with Khyree Jackson worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They bypassed pressing needs at running back and interior defensive lineman to take Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE that was not the priority.
Value with a capital V on Dominick Puni in pick 104, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Theo Johnson in slot 138 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Layden Robinson at the 178th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Eric Watts. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Josh Proctor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
