If confidence were a draft strategy, the Eagles would have aced it. Beau Stephens at pick No. 114 is 45 spots clear of where he belonged. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They banked enough surplus on Miller to cover a lot of smaller sins. They went 8 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in pick 54 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
A slide stopped in slot 68, with Christen Miller worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Sam Roush. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Caden Curry at Round 3, Pick 34 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Beau Stephens at pick No. 114, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hezekiah Masses. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Isaiah World at Round 5, Pick 13 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Red Murdock in pick No. 178 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cole Payton in the 197th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
