The Eagles bet big and early on Xavier Truss, 115 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
On value alone, Paul Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The Carter pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, edge rusher and other spots.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Warren at Round 1, Pick 31 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jalon Walker in pick No. 63 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Good price on Sebastian Castro in the 95th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A want over a need in slot 128: Barrett Carter adds a linebacker while cornerback, edge rusher and other spots keeps waiting.
A reach for Ty Robinson in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Chris Paul Jr. at No. 164 is a fall that decides a draft. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Xavier Truss at No. 166 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
