Everything else got attention, and interior defensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Eagles to leave a draft. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Landing McCaffrey that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Kris Jenkins at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DJ James. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Cedric Gray in No. 120 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Luke McCaffrey at Round 5, Pick 25. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and Tykee Smith was the payoff at slot 171. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Walter Rouse at the 172nd overall pick is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kendall Milton at pick 210 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
