Whoever sat across the table from the Eagles should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The Cowing pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The Malik Hooker pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Cooper DeJean at slot 27 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Troy Fautanu was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Payton Wilson at No. 58, value and slot in agreement. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Max Melton is a better player than the 88th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Johnny Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kitan Oladapo in pick 161 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marist Liufau in Round 5, Pick 35. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Jacob Cowing in slot 172 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Rasheen Ali in pick No. 210, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
