The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Eagles walked right past.
King at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Tyler Lockett gives the group a proven body among the projects.
They are betting Smith proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 30 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Kalen King in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 59, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
TreVeyon Henderson at the 92nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
Tykee Smith at Round 3, Pick 30 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
