The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Jarrian Jones slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They are betting Trice proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
On the needs board they went 7 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick No. 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Payton Wilson in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
The board had cheaper options than Bralen Trice at the 53rd pick, and it noticed. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Jaylen Wright at Round 3, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kalen King at pick 160 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach No. 170 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Jordan Travis, who had no business lasting to the 171st overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Malik Mustapha all the way to slot 178, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jarrian Jones in No. 189 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Trey Knox, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
