You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Isaac TeSlaa at the Round 5 slot, roughly 50 spots before his name belonged. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
That Vinson pick is the receipt they will wave around later. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for T.J. Sanders in Round 2, Pick 12, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Shemar Turner in slot 76 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a linebacker like Kobe King reach pick 149 and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Raheim Sanders at the 171st pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaac TeSlaa this early at the 174th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for CJ West in slot 204, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Torricelli Simpkins III well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Jonas Sanker still on the board at the 239th pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Carson Vinson in pick 247 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
