The Patriots went off the board in a big way for Barryn Sorrell, 77 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They banked enough surplus on Moore to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th pick they get an island corner at fair value.
Jonah Savaiinaea in Round 2, Pick 6 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Restrepo at pick 69 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Mason Taylor at No. 77 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sai'vion Jones this early at the 106th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let a safety like Malachi Moore reach slot 144 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Jarquez Hunter at par in Round 7, Pick 1, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cody Lindenberg. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Barryn Sorrell at the Round 7 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
