The rest of the league will want that one back. Jordan James tumbling to the Eagles in No. 166 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Reaching for Wilson left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a centerfielder for the defense, outstanding value to boot.
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in slot 63, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Alfred Collins in the 95th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Azareye'h Thomas in No. 128 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeffrey Bassa at pick 160 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Jared Wilson in pick No. 164 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Jordan James at Round 5, Pick 29 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
