The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Troy Fautanu slide 28 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They will need Cohen to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They paid sticker price for Nate Wiggins in pick No. 22, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Troy Fautanu reach the 50th pick and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 21 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Javion Cohen in slot 161; a little patience would have been rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Malik Mustapha in the 171st overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Marist Liufau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
