For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Eagles walked out of the weekend still thin at interior defensive lineman, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ransom. The James reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at pick No. 51 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
They jumped the gun on D.J. James, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Andrew Mukuba at Round 3, Pick 34 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Darius Robinson in No. 147, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Devin Neal in the 172nd pick; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Lathan Ransom at pick 178 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had cheaper options than Brant Kuithe at the 253rd pick, and it noticed. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
