The Matthew Jones selection is the head-turner. The Eagles reached 29 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. On value alone, King makes the weekend a net positive. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 50 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the 81st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Braelon Allen at No. 120 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 25: Luke McCaffrey for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Marist Liufau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
You do not let a cornerback like Kalen King reach No. 210 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matthew Jones this early at pick No. 230. The roster fit checks out.
A big swing on Sam Hartman at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
