The trade table was a mismatch, and the Eagles were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
On value alone, Jones makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. They will need Johnson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A quiet steal in slot 50: T.J. Tampa for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach on Jaden Hicks in No. 92; the board had better options right there. The roster fit checks out.
Dillon Johnson at pick 97 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A conviction pick on Javion Cohen at Round 5, Pick 1 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zion Tupuola-Fetui. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Roger Rosengarten in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Joe Milton III is a better player than pick No. 178 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
